Today, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of 16,000 semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program selected from the 1.2 million students who took the PSAT in Fall 2017. These academically talented high school seniors have the opportunity to compete for more than 31 million dollars in scholarship funds. This is the most prestigious and elite scholarship competition in the country. Pikeville High School is fortunate enough to have our 5th semi-finalist since 2012—Cami Gaunt. Cami is the daughter of Drs. William and Tina Gaunt of Pikeville, Kentucky. She is a member of the Academic Team, National Honor Society, Student Council, Beta Club, Kentucky Youth Assembly and Teens Who Care. Cami was a 2018 Governor’s Scholars Program participant. She would like to major in English and attend college somewhere in Kentucky. Her brother, Michael (Valedictorian, Class of 2016), was a 2016 National Merit Scholar Finalist.
Cami was selected to participate in this program by taking the PSAT her junior year, which is the only way to qualify. This year’s PSAT will be given on Oct. 10 and the cost is $16. Students may sign up to take it in the guidance office.
